Beyond the mental future dwelling I mentioned last entry, I also have been feeling a bit lost in time physically this month. I am getting heavily into my February winter depression, and it's still January. I am pretty claustrophobic and I think there's something about these canyons of snow that's weighing on me. It can't really be cabin fever, since I get outside usually at least once per day, but man. I just want to run away and hide right now. My Swedish genes should really be able to handle this weather, but maybe it's the French that's revolting right now, longing for the Mediterranean beaches. I don't think it's my Irish/English/Scottish heritage, because hey, we like bleak. So yeah, I'll blame the French. Damned French.

Here's some excitement: I napped a lot today. I showered and took a trip to Brian's buddy's house to pick up some stuff. I napped again. I read some more in another book. I am reading the Robert Crais "Elvis Cole" series. Never read anything by him before — odd, because I just plow through this kind of mystery. Hard-boiled but wisecracking Corvette-driving LA private detective Cole and his inscrutable but unbelievably kickass sidekick Joe Pike. It's a bit Robert Parker-esque (and Parker came first so I'm sure he was probably a bit peeved in his lifetime), and I can see where Harlan Coben cribbed from (so maybe karma is a bitch after all), but it's still pretty enjoyable stuff. The books started in the late 80s, so right now I'm reliving new wave hairdos and teal and peach decor. And no cell phones or internet. And cocaine seems to feature prominently, which seems sort of quaint and innocent. And the idea that women can often be brought back to reality by having sex with the hero, which is less quaint and innocent and sadly not even behind us. I finished the first one (The Monkey's Raincoat) and I'm halfway thru the second one (Stalking the Angel), so I will see if they're worthwhile. There are something like 10 more? And a couple of standalone books. And some Joe Pike ones.

And some more: Work yesterday was pretty uneventful. I got paperwork done while I was killing time, though: I filled out the census form I got in the mail. I wrote my rent check. I confirmed my juror selection form (April). I wrote out a charitable donation check. I finally wrote a tip check for the paper delivery person. I didn't file my taxes. Tomorrow is chores day. Get mom's groceries, get rid of some recycling to the City Yard, etc. Seeing Stephen and Val in the evening to catch up on gossip. Maybe in the evening I will file my taxes. Be handy to know if I'm getting some money back!

And that's all for now. So much excitement I need to nap again.

A tax refund would certainly help the winter doldrums a bit, I'll bet.

I'm not sure that going outside these days is better than shutting the curtains and hiding all day, because peeking around GIANT SNOWBANKS at every corner gets really old really quickly. Wish there were some way to send you on a tropical vacation for a couple of days.
