I haven't posted my thoughts on the last year yet. Frankly, it all feels a little overwhelming. I think I'll start with an easy post: my favorite media/experiences consumed this last year.

Best movies seen in the theater: Wall-E, Cloverfield, Slumdog Millionaire, Iron Man
Best Netflix or borrowed: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Helvetica, Pan's Labyrinth, Transsiberian, Dexter s.1
Best books I read: Charles Stross — Halting State, Joe Hill — 20th Century Ghosts, Giles Blunt — 40 Words for Sorrow, Cory Doctorow — Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town, Lewis Shiner — Black and White, Peter Craig — Hot Plastic, Michael Connelly — The Brass Verdict, John Scalzi — The Last Colony, Elizabeth George — Careless in Red, Nicola Griffith — The Blue Place
Best trip: Two trips to Provincetown with Stephen and Val, one in spring and one in fall; they rented the same house twice, so that was pretty neat (it was gorgeous, too). And that's the only place I went all year!
Best albums: Vampire Weekend, The Ting-Tings, Coldplay's Viva la Vida, Joe Jackson's Rain, Death Cab for Cutie's Narrow Stairs. I didn't buy much music this year.
Best sports: Red Sox, duh. And an interesting Patriots year — first the major upset in the Super Bowl, then the 11-5 non-Tom Brady season this year with no playoff berth. Weird!
Favorite new tv series: The Mentalist, Fringe, Life on Mars, Sons of Anarchy
Favorite returning tv series: The Shield, Chuck, Life, Criminal Minds, Battlestar Galactica, Ugly Betty, Supernatural, ER (thank god it's the final season, tho), and Bones
Best DVD purchase: Dexter, seasons 1 & 2
Best purchase: My iPhone, my Kindle. It's a tossup. They both RULE. I was a little down on the iPhone for the first couple of months, but then the Apps Store started up and now I have games! And Shazam to ID songs! And a cool MLB score updater! And games! And Facebook! And most of these are free!
Best gift(s): Red Sox tickets, a Tom-Tom GPS and a down comforter. Patrick doesn't want me to get lost or cold. He's swell!
Best book I haven't finished yet: Duma Key, Stephen King. It'll probably go wrong in the end, they usually do with him, but so far I like it. It's been so long since I started it that by now I'll have to probably start over.

I was happily surprised by Duma Key.

Excellent to hear. It's another massive tome, and I'm tempted to buy it again for my Kindle so I don't have to haul it around, but I am trying to be good, finances-wise, so I will read the giant hardcover I already have. I was about 3/4 thru it when I stopped. I will see if I can pick up from where I stopped.

I think I still have the audiobook -- I could burn it to CDs for you?
