1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).

I took the right-hand path, scuffing through a mat of pine needles and fine snow.

It was a steep climb. After a few minutes, I began to sweat. My fury diminished, bitten away by the cold. For the last few years I'd carried on conversations in my head. Well, not conversations really; arguments. Now the voices fell silent. I found myself focusing on things I didn't usually notice, like the vapor clouding my face with every breath, the way sounds seemed to carry from far away. Seagulls, a diesel engine, waves tugging at the shingle beach below.

My closest book was a Dilbert book. Don't Step in the Leadership.

I love Dilbert, but I can't read too much at a time because it's too close to my office life sometimes! Makes me weep! :-)

My book didn't have five sentences on page 123. Cookbooks are boring anyway.

Bummer! I was just lucky that it happened to be a good book. Normally it would be something like "Microsoft Excel Tips and Tricks!" or something as equally thrilling.
