Cat update the millionth:

Sam and GreyKitty both took a trip to the vet again yesterday; Sam finally had his bloodwork done so we can see if he's healthy enough to have his teeth cleaned, and GreyKitty needed a follow-up to see how her treatment is going. The results are in!

Sam: 100% healthy! No elevated anything. Healthy! Scheduled for teeth cleaning for next Tuesday.

GreyKitty: No longer diabetic! I seriously have been suspecting this for at least a couple of weeks now. She had pancreatitis, and diabetes is caused by a poorly-functioning pancreas, so when her pancreas got better, her diabetes disappeared. The vet pronounced her "a completely different cat" when he saw her, and was very excited to see that she'd added over a pound back. Her kidney levels are the tiniest bit elevated, but they have been for more than a year. He wants to see her in about a month for another check, but...Woo-hoo! No more insulin injections! No medications at all! Yay, GreyKitty!

I have three almost entirely healthy cats! Life is good.

Yes: Jon and I are both fearsomely allergic. Which is a shame, because Jon totally adores cats and they him. (When we go for a walk in a suburban area, they appear out of the hedges from all sides and come to be stroked. This never happens when I'm on my own. I think they can smell him or something!) My brother is also a total animal lover and sort of holds it against me that he couldn't have a dog or a cat when he was younger.

I had guinea pigs growing up, so I know what they need. They're not tremendously active* animals, and don't like large open spaces all that much, so I'd feel better about keeping one in a small suburban garden than I would with a rabbit. I'm very tempted to get a rabbit, but I think we'll wait until (if ever) we have children and one of us is home more.

We're thinking of getting two female guinea pigs so they keep each other company, and we'll have a grazing ark for them on the lawn and a tray inside in winter.

*Or intelligent, alas, although they do learn the sound of the fridge opening.
