proceeding apace
Aug. 27th, 2011 12:24 amBusy week. Birthday was pretty low-key. Saw Mom, had dinner with Patrick, and Brian made me a birthday cake, which was really good (and very nice). Got a lot of cards from my aunts, and one of them was so sweet it made me cry. I really need to get back in touch with my family. Worked, didn't do much all week. Been low-energy, so I haven't gone to the gym. Which is probably why I'm low-energy. I believe those things are supposed to be related!
Lost another pound or so. Don't remember where I was when I posted last. Managed to stay under my calorie limits all week, even including three pieces of cake (on three different days! I'm not bingeing). The cake is now (thankfully) gone, and I am back to sugar free Jello as a treat.
All prepped for the hurricane. What does that entail? Uh, well, we went out on Wednesday and bought some bottled water and some cans of ravioli. And tonight we went to Target and picked up some cat food and bananas. ALL SET. I am constantly amused by footage of stores being sold out of things like batteries and flashlights. Do people throw them away from one storm to the next? Who is it buying new ones all the time? I mean, we have a battery rack in our office. If we get low, we buy more. I have a wind-up radio in my trunk. I have a flashlight in my desk, and next to my bed. There is at least one in my car, and a couple in the toolbox in the basement. We even have a battery-powered camping lantern in the basement. I always have first aid supplies. We really didn't need to go out and buy food, even, but we were due to get cat food anyway, so yay, bananas were a plus. We have a propane grill, so if necessary we can cook. I dunno. Maybe most people don't have these things? But we live somewhere that there's winter every year. It's a good idea to already have this stuff available, you know?
Tomorrow we're going to put the trash barrels and lawn furniture into the basement, and I'm going to move the hanging plants and the flag inside. Then whatever happens, happens. I hope nothing falls on my car. I'd like the tree outside to remain standing. Hell, all the trees. But otherwise I'm not going to stress. We've been getting warnings that we're all going to lose power. Suzanne got a call that they expect she could lose power for up to a week. My plan, should I lose power, is to read some books, and maybe sleep a lot. I'm charging the kindles and the phone, yay technology! My near constant stream of Words With Friends can remain uninterrupted.
Good luck, fellow east coasters! May nothing fall on you or yours. May you remain untroubled by wild winds and rains.
