UPDATE: My lungs...still suck. Second day in a row out of work. Looking at third tomorrow. Yow!

The codeine is AWESOME. Kills my coughing dead — for exactly 2.5 hours. And then *poof* it is gone, gone as if it never existed. Which sucks because the suggested dosage is one teaspoon every EIGHT hours. I scoff at your suggested dosage! I've been taking it every four hours. Which still leaves 1.5 hours of hacking misery. I am now thinking of taking it every 2.5 hours. After all, I've got refills. And I'm sure the teeny amount of codeine that's actually in there isn't going to fry my brain or whatever for the 24 hours or so I plan to overdose on it. Right?

Because the sleep I've gotten in the last 72 hours? It's fitful obsessive non-restful sleep, and even with codeine it's only in 2.5 hour increments. I *try* to dream about something other than sorting, or solving a problem, but it's all busywork all the time. Around 3am I was trying to force myself to dream that I was back in Provincetown, lying on the deck, baking in the hot sun. Or even about being eaten by monsters. Anything at all interesting! My brain, rebellious asshole that it is, instantly transported me back to whatever pointless task it thought I needed to rehash. I can't even remember what it was, but damn. And then, just when the tedium and frustration was likely to kill me, I woke up coughing and unable to breathe. Stupid brain. Stupid lungs.

When I was at the doctor's yesterday he gave me some kind of steroid shot. He listened to me wheeze for about five seconds and said "I'm going to get you a shot RIGHT NOW. We'll get to the other stuff after.." which sort of seemed ominous. But I was too tired and sore and cranky to care. He did an oxygen test, too, but that turned out ok. So I have four different drugs running around my system — my normal albuterol inhaler, codeine, some damned shot, and antibiotics for another three days. I feel so special. I guess when I get bronchitis, I get a LOT of bronchitis! Have to see him again in two weeks, will find out details then.

On the brighter side, I feel the slightest bit better today. Maybe tomorrow will show vast improvement! I just wish I could stop being so bored. Is hard to get comfy with sore ribs. Can't breathe when I lie down, so reading is out. TV is irritating. I will watch baseball soon, but that's pretty much background noise. Bah! And the internet sucks, too. How many articles about a kitty with no face (warning, not safe for the squeamish, very Mogwai-looking), an itch so bad you scratch clear through your skull to your BRAIN, and how smart the octopus is, can one read in a day? Thank god for the Big Picture. That at least is awesome.

So how's YOUR day? Tell me something fun? Is there a world out there?

Kitty with no face! GAAAAH!

Codeine is your friend, but one teaspoon every eight hours? Seriously, how are you going to Tussin on that? (Is that the right terminology? I don't know.)

And the camera doesn't quite capture the horror, either, as if the camera itself is squeamish. I can't blame it. Still, the kitty seems very nice. And has a job! Which is more than you can say for Sam.

I have no idea where that dosage came from. The last time I took this stuff (and I still have a tiny bit in the bottom of the bottle) it was 1 tsp every 4 hours. Weird.

I didn't look at the kitty - and am not sure I will, without knowing what "no face" involves. I did read the itch article, because I am fascinated by neuroscience, but I scratched my head as I did so. Stupid suggestible nerves.

What happened today? Well... unexpectedly I wasn't at work, but I went to a seminar on web publishing anyway, because I had booked it. I bought some rhubarb, so we had rhubarb crumble for tea. One of the guinea pigs made J worry by making a weird burpy sneezy noise, but appeared in perfect health otherwise. I did some college work. I read some Kate Beaton comics. I'm still doing the college work.

My life is highly exciting, isn't it?

Rhubarb crumble sounds delightful! Some day I will bake.

And perhaps it's best that you don't look at the kitty. Her injury happened when she was a wee kitten and she's three now, so it's "healed" but really looks like an open wound where her nose should be. And no eyelids. Or lips. So yeah. No face. Poor thing!

Rhubarb crumble doesn't really count as baking in my book - no actual skill is involved, and it took about five minutes to make the crumble topping and put it all together. I should make it more often!

I hope you feel better very soon.

I stayed in and worked on a project just about all day, so I can't personally vouch for the world beyond my apartment complex. But my project is coming along quite well, and that's making me very happy. I will spare you the geeky crochet details of said project.

Thanks! I am SOOOO SICK of coughing. Every muscle in my chest agrees with me, too.

It looked like a gorgeous day outside. And sure, I could have gone out and sat in the backyard, but I just didn't feel public-presentable. Ugh! Glad to hear your project is working out well.

My world is very hot. When I got home, I had to take my pants off. I'm sure that is very exciting to you.

My world is also archaic. I think I am getting rid of my jam boxes. One was an all-purpose jam box which could also record tape to tape, but one of the tape players broke. Another is a cute little thing that can record tape to tape. The third can play CDs. I no longer record our informal recitals--guys with fancy electronics do that. So I never need to record tape to tape anymore. And I can play CDs on my computer now (I assume). Currently I use my boyfriend's musical playing devices, all very nice. If we ever break up, I'd have to start over. But I think I would anyway. I also have some 3.5-inch floppy disks I am probably tossing, though Robin says he still has equipment that might be able to read them if they haven't disintegrated inside, or whatever happens to old disks.

In my world, all cats have faces. I am not clicking on that link.

Hope you feel better soon. Sorry I was unable to come up with anything interesting.

Thanks! And "jam boxes"?? How delightful! A regionalism! We call them "boom boxes".

I've been ignoring the whole 3.5" disk issue. Hmm. We have a lot of old disks, and it's going to be up to me to go thru 'em and get rid of 'em. Sigh.

Probably best if you don't click on the kitty with no face link. Altho she's a very sweet kitty and has a nice job as a therapy cat for people with disfigurements. And her people love her to death. But she's NOT pretty.
