Hmm. Not sure I agree with this one! Although I probably am more idealistic than most. Sigh.

It's a serious day full of serious things, but oddly I'm feeling kind of happy and hopeful this evening. I had a pretty good weekend, and although I felt kind of dragged down all day by the rain and by various physical ailments, I am comfy now and have some good things keeping me buoyed up:

  • As Patrick mentioned recently, I bought a new mattress and box spring (oh, sorry, foundation) on Friday. My current bed is so old (20+ years!!) I have to sleep very carefully to avoid permanent spinal damage, so I am totally fixated on how great the new mattress is going to be. Oh, so nice! Kind of expensive, but so nice! And I'm going from a full size to a queen size, so I get to buy new sheets! An excuse! It's being delivered on Saturday. Happy dance! Tap dancing happy dance!
  • Harry has been forcing me to surf the emotional rollercoaster. Some days he eats, some days he doesn't. He ate for the last two days and nights, though, so...score! I brushed him tonight and he was very head-butty and purry. He has been pretty active the last couple of days, too, so overall he seems pretty ok. This is good.
  • I went to the doctor yesterday, told him my laundry list of ailments. He gave me a prescription for the generic of Flonase, and after just one dose suddenly I can breathe normally! I am not coughing and being all congested constantly! I can breathe! Why didn't he give me this a year ago when I complained? I haven't had a non-congested day for about two years (literally). I figured it was my asthma getting worse. He figured it was my asthma. And it wasn't! I'll get the official diagnosis in a couple of weeks, but it's some kind of respiratory irritation. To my friends who have shared a hotel room recently: it's possible my snoring will vanish! Unbelievable. I think I'm going to ask him for an allergy test. Or whatever. I've never been allergic to anything, but I know that can change over time.
  • I've been to my doctor about four times in the last three years, and over that time frame I've somehow lost almost 50 pounds! The main difference in my life (besides living with mother)? Bringing my lunch to work. Who'da thought? Seriously!
  • The Red Sox are still in first place. I watch almost every single game all summer long, see. Sure, sometimes baseball is a little too soothing, and I nap with a cat. But for me, baseball = summer, and winning baseball = stress-free summer. As long as baseball is still on, it's still summer, and as long as the Sox are still winning it's a happy time!

Anyway, that's what I'm thinking of this evening. I hope you have reasons to be cheerful tonight, too!
