I feel pretty content right now because I just ate my favorite lunch: Fresh sliced turkey with muenster cheese, mayo, butter, salt and pepper on an onion roll, side of pickle and chips, with really really cold Diet Coke to drink. MMMmm!

What's your favorite lunch?

Mum's vegetable soup, then toasted cheddar cheese on wholegrain bread. Cup of tea. I am so boring.

Not boring! My favorite meal in the entire world is (all of this fresh-picked from the garden, o'course): corn on the cob, green beans, tomatoes, and crackers with cottage cheese and chives. And second only to that is grilled cheese on whole wheat and tomato soup.

I find mostly it's simple food everyone loves the most.

We have almost the same favorite sandwich, llcoolvad. Mine is just sliced turkey with muenster and mayo on an onion roll. Except I only like it with deli turkey, which has clearly been injected with salt or something. Turkey from, like, Thanksgiving leftovers is not my favorite. Have you tried adding basil leaves? Also interesting and delicious, but not my favorite.

Two of those and a glass of orange juice makes a good lunch. I'm not sure what my favorite lunch is.

You're right, I misspoke when I said "fresh" turkey, because for me it's deli turkey all the way. Turkey leftovers are different!

It's my mom's trick to add the butter. Makes it less good for you (although she only adds the equivalent of a half teaspoon or so), but adds a necessary yumminess. And I would have the OJ, but I get terrible awful wicked nasty heartburn from OJ (and chocolate, but I usually suffer for the chocolate).

And it's just not the same with any other kind of cheese, is it?

Nope, that's my favoite cheese for that sandwich.

I don't want to know about the butter!

Every once in a while OJ will feel kind of caustic, but mostly it's good. I've never noticed heartburn from chocolate. Bummer!

Of course you put OJ in my head so I went out and got some. I love OJ so very very much, but my gut hates it. But I had some anyway and took some TUMS, so I will live!

Chocolate is just about the very worst, because usually I have it when there's nothing else in my stomach, like a few hours after dinner. The pain, the pain! But soooooo goooooood.

A favorite for me is deli turkey on wheat, with mayo, swiss cheese (or provolone), and lettuce. Chips on the side, and a diet Pepsi.

This is one I get from a deli...they make it so much better than I do.

I put a little butter on when I'm making turkey sandwiches at home. Definitely does good things.

Mom started doing the butter thing years ago because Dad liked it that way -- no idea where he got it from. It's also good on roast beef. My favorite roast beef sandwich is on thick multigrain bread, with some kind of dijon-y mustard, fresh tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. And butter. And salt and pepper. Maybe some lettuce, but only if it's green and not iceburg.

This living-with-my-mother thing has brought back my salt and pepper dependence. I thought I'd kicked it!

Leftover chicken pie, without the potatoes or carrots or anything. Just chicken and sauce and pie crust. Mmm.

If I'm being a good dieter, then my favorite is ground turkey made with Manwich sauce over field greens with an apple on the side. I've been on that kick for weeks now. It's good I don't get bored with food too quickly, because I suck at coming up with new things to eat.

Chicken pie sauce and crust...carby goodness!

I am ignoring the dieting part, because it is my journal and I say so.

When my family is off doing something at lunchtime and I'm all alone, I indulge. This isn't my "favorite" but it's sort of become a new guilty pleasure: Morningstar Farms vegetarian corn dogs, tomato soup and a big glass of iced tea.

Sad, isn't it?

I've always wondered what a "corn dog" could be.

A lovely picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_dog

I have never eaten one -- but it's sort of tempting, from a daredevil risk-taking perspective. [livejournal.com profile] cicadabug's kid eats then all the time and likes them. YRMV.

Sadly, these are not good for you, not even the Morningstar Farms version, which I just had for dinner last night. The only good part is that I like them best dipped in a lot of mustard, and mustard isn't bad for you.

They don't look quite as greasy in real life as in that picture, but otherwise, those are good pictures.

I never knew corndogs were so exotic.

Well, I come from Scotland, the land that invented deep-fried pizza and deep-fried Mars bars, but I have to say we don't have corn dogs as far as I know. We undoubtedly have some kind of battered sausage supper available at fish and chip shops, however... I'm not trying to claim any nutritional high ground.
