SEPTEMBER
38. Dark Tangos, Lewis Shiner. Fiction. Man, is Shiner good. I read enough crap that I am always surprised when someone is truly amazingly gifted. Shiner is. I adored his Black & White a few years ago, and this is another political thriller, but so much better than that description. And it's $2.99 on Kindle—I just picked up almost his whole catalog, including the SF stuff of his that I read in the 80s. Go buy it. I couldn't put this one down.
39. The End of Overeating, David A. Kessler, MD, Non-Fic. Extremely interesting. All about fat, sugar and salt, and how the food industry has maximized palatability in foods so that we're compelled to eat more and more. Fascinating for me to hear about other people who have always thought about food basically all the time. Because that's me. 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, for my entire life. Always know where food is in the house, what is around, where restaurants are, what my favorite foods at them are, things like that. It's a huge curse. And apparently I'm so not alone. I haven't quite finished this one, so I don't know what the answer is yet. Non fiction always takes me forever to read!
40. Creole Belle, James Lee Burke (audio), Crime. His most recent book. The last of the unabridged versions read by Will Patton. Sad! He's read a few of the earlier ones, but they're all abridged and I just don't do abridged. I don't know what I'll do now. I might have to listen to them all again, or something!
41. Jump Cut, Lise McClendon, Crime. Not bad. Needed some editing. Writing style was a bit confusing in some paragraphs, not sure who is talking or what's going on. Plot was decent, characters fun. Quick read, basically.
Looks like I'm on track to get to at least 52 books this year. Yay!
