Not much happening. Had a week. Can't remember last weekend, so it was probably pretty low-key; I know it involved a gyn visit, so it's probably best forgotten. Worked all week. Lost another pound, which isn't much, but broke my two-week plateau. Went somewhat sporadically to the gym. Didn't do much in the evenings until this weekend. Saw Jenn and Patrick on Friday night, got some Chinese food, hung around gossiping and watching Food Network. Saturday after work was Patrick again; we tried to walk to our town's Italian Fest, but just as we got there stuff was being broken down. Serves us right for not checking the times. Went instead to a local Mexican joint, came back and watched the first episode of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which was impossibly awesome. I listened to one of the audiobooks a bunch of years ago, but never read the series. Now I will watch the show, as I am hugely enjoying the scenery as much as the story.
Today was supposed to be lunch with Mom; my birthday is next weekend, and we have a traditional meal we usually have for my birthday. Alas, she wasn't feeling up to it so we postponed. So I hung around, did some cleaning, laundry, got Five Guys for lunch, watched baseball, and messed around on the Internet.
Tomorrow night is Attack the Block with Patrick. They were giving away passes in the paper, so he got some. Free movie! And one I really want to see, too. Read a good review, probably in Entertainment Weekly. So yay! More fun.
Finished my first Audible audiobook, didn't want to wait two weeks to get my next one (I'm on the 1 credit per month plan, and the first three months are on discount. If I go up to the next level of two credits per month, I lose my three months' of discount, which would be a jump from the discount rate of $7.49 to $22.95. If you want a book and have no credits, you have to pay for that book (they seem to be typically in the $22 range with the member discount), or wait til the month rolls and you get a new credit), so I searched the Internet for clues on how to get more credits, and found some tricky suggestion that you cancel for monetary reasons and they give you $20 credit to retain your account. Did that, got two more books (paid a little, one was really cheap), now should be set until September. Dunno what I'll do in late September, but I'll work that out then. They should let you buy credits. Dummies. Also got a free 14 day subscription to emusic, who also do audiobooks. I got my free title, then cancelled. I know, it's sorta unethical, but they let you do it so why not? I am very poor and have great need for distracting entertainment. And anyway, I had really good reasons to cancel. Their search isn't as robust as Audible, the download mechanism is confusing, and overall I didn't like their interface. Plus, no nifty app for my phone. I filled out their survey, so that should help defray the cost of my free book.
Confession is good. Cheap entertainment is my hobby! As are, apparently, parentheticals!

Date: 2011-08-15 03:37 pm (UTC)That is how I've listened to as many audiobooks as I have, almost all were library titles. But yeah, that's probably what I'll do in September. Hit the Wakefield library with my laptop (because audiobooks cost $1 to "rent" unlike everything else in the library, but hey, I can rip 'em without leaving the library).
