progressively yours
Aug. 20th, 2011 12:42 amSo a couple weeks ago I picked up my new glasses. I'd had a prescription lingering in my wallet for months, but hadn't gotten around to sending off for my glasses via Zenni Optical. Mom asked what I wanted for my birthday, so I asked for glasses and used one of those "buy two pair" specials at Cambridge Eye Doctors. As if my impending birthday wasn't making me think about age and place in life and so forth ENOUGH, my optometrist determined that I now need bifocals. Yay?
I got a pair of regular distance lenses, and then I used the second pair for the bifocals. (I guess really they're progressives, as there's no line). The distance ones were awesome, but the bifocals have such a tiny focal range for the reading part that I haven't bothered to use them. Until tonight! I've been playing Words With Friends on my phone with a bunch of my Facebook friends, and tonight everyone was slinging words back and forth pretty quick. I had the tv on, and was reading the internet between rounds, so I had three distances to look at. Two were fine, but the up close phone stuff started to make me squinty and I was getting sick of taking my glasses off every other minute to play. Brainstorm! Try the bifocals. Duh! They work adequately for this purpose. I can mostly see the tv, mostly see the computer, and mostly see my phone. Well enough, I guess. I don't think I'd like to walk around with them on (the ground is not in the right place) or even try to work with them, but for my evening's entertainment I guess they'll do. So yay! Less squinting, more playing.

Week has been pretty good, overall. Went to see "Attack the Block" with Patrick on Monday night. Grabbed dinner first at Cheesecake Factory. Resisted having cheesecake. LOVED the movie. Want to see it again already! Been training a new person at work all week (who is pretty good), and finally have been writing new training material and plowing through all our files to get them organized and to identify what needs to be updated. Productive! Brian worked late almost every night this week, so I stayed a little late a couple nights, picked up dinner on the way home, and spent my evenings cleaning out my Tivo. Didn't go to the gym at all this week but did manage to get some walking in on a couple days. Lost another 1.5 pounds. I'm now at about 34 pounds lost since spring, so that's pretty great. Went over my calorie limit today for only the third time since I've been tracking (which is almost two months, now). Today's overage? 98 cals, and basically because I had beef for both lunch and dinner. I can live with that. I expect I might have a cheat day on my birthday on Sunday, but really just so I can have some cake.
