No Name Restaurant
Restaurant Review #1:
This evening a bunch of friends and I all decided, at the request of an out-of-town co-worker, to visit the No Name Restaurant in Boston.
Hard to find at night in a car full of non-Bostonites, the No Name Restaurant was described to us as a no-frills but good food joint on the Fish Pier in Boston. Great, we all thought (except for P and I, who don't really like seafood, but we're game to go along).
Yeah, not so much. I'd describe it as no-frills, period. In fact, some dishes we got were worse than no-frills, they were actually terrible. I got a cheeseburger (see the no seafood note above) and it reminded me of dorm food -- it had a non-hamburger taste to it that I couldn't really place, and didn't come with any shrubbery at all, like tomatoes, lettuce, whatever; just fries. P got the scallops, which he says were ok. Two other friends got the fried clams, also ok. Someone got a chicken salad, and the chicken was "nasty" -- her words. Someone else got the swordfish, and he claimed that it was ok.
The soda was served in a small glass bottle, room-temperature, with a cup of ice, and no refills were offered. The waiter forgot someone's tea, and had to make several trips to deliver even the smallest part of the meal. We were a party of seven -- not a mob!
The worst part? The person who travelled the furthest to dine at this lovely establishment (all the way from CA) wanted clam chowder. The No Name Restaurant, despite being a Boston seafood restaurant, DOES NOT CARRY CLAM CHOWDER! Merely "seafood" chowder! Nice. I need to know -- how is this even possible? you can get clam chowder at convenience stores in Boston! At Friendly's! Probably at GAS STATIONS! How can you not get it at a seafood place, however "no-frills"??
The only good parts: They have pitchers of ice water on each table, and plenty of paper cups to go around. There's garlic bread at each table. And there is ample parking sort of near the restaurant (a big plus in Boston).
It's fairly cheap, but in my opinion totally not worth it. Skip it and go to any other seafood restaurant in Boston. Trust me.
