I think the gross part is just that angle of the view of the esophagus. The little pink part that is the problem doesn't actually look gross, just like a birthmark. In your place, I would be learning the word "esophagogastroduodenoscopy," which I was so excited I could figure out the meaning of due to a fabulous course I had in anatomy and physiology in the seventh grade, but then they tell you right away what it means "a procedure in which a fibre optic cable is inserted through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum." Well, at least I can confirm for you that the duodenum is the next part of the digestive tract after the stomach and that it is not pronounced "Duo Denum" but "do ODD uh num." Ah, Latin. Anyway, I hope your esophagus is found to be all pretty and shiny!

And it's better than the policy of not being qualified for a raise for at least six months, after which you have to wait another nine months for it to be raise time.

I just thought of an old escapee co-worker myself. He escaped before I did (and before I even thought I needed to escape) because a near-death incident caused him to re-evaluate his priorities and he decided to go for his dream job. That was many years ago (seven?). A recent news item showing that many other people just got the same near-death experience made me look him up. I found him on Facebook and it looks like he's still living the dream. (And he has kids now and they are totally cute.) Oh, yes!
