These are good!

One problem with this year's learning is that so much of it was not the fun kind. It seems like it might be good to have some character-development not-necessarily-fun-at-all learning like for you new job, but also fun learning like for your jewelry. Me, I'm happy just with the fun learning.

I definitely did a lot of focus on fun when I got out of grad school and got a job while many of my friends were still in grad school. Basically I needed something to look forward to every single day--dinner with friends, a good book, something!

Thanks for defining "fabulous." By your definition, I'm going to say I'm fringe-fabulous at fifty. No debt! Quite good health (though of course some room for improvement). I need more fun, though. Actually, I'm having good fun thanks to blogs, books, TV, movies, music, and boyfriend. But I miss having parties and doing other more interactive things. Your one special thing per month. Last year I actually took three trips--one to Seattle (family reunion), one to a small town in Texas (to visit one of my boyfriend's childhood homes) and a super-cheap local cruise--these were not as fun as most of my trips, but they still count. I also saw four plays, which totally counts. And some of my friends do a monthly "craft night" which I look forward to for the socializing, so that counts. I should try to think of more ideas like that. At my age, I've learned that I really never like the bar scene and I almost never like festivals, though if I've read a book by one of the authors at a book festival that can be fun. And occasionally there's something weird like the backyard chicken coop tour that's fun once or twice. But the whole point of living in a big city is that things are happening, so I should pay more attention.
