NOVEMBER
45. One Good Turn, Kate Atkinson (audio), Crime. Same audio series, new story. Still cozy! Newly minted millionaire Jackson has retired to France, but he soon realizes that his dream wasn't so great in reality. He's followed his actress girlfriend to the fringe festival in Edinburgh, and is almost immediately caught up in mayhem. Some variance again from the tv series, plotwise.

46. Big City, Bad Blood, Sean Chervover (audio), Crime. Gritty Chicago private eye. Takes a side trip to LA, then back to the Big City, pursued by mafia hitmen all the way. Not bad. Amusingly hard-bitten. Reader was good, but he sounded a lot older than the lead character, so I kept forgetting that the lead character was only thirty-seven. The story got better in the second half.

47. Mission Flats, William Landay, Crime. Good! Dark, unexpected, well-written. Young small-town police chief finds a body in a cabin in his resort town in Maine. The murder victim is a DA from Boston, and the chief follows the trail to Boston to help to solve the crime. Like many crime stories set in Boston there's a whiff of corruption, racism, family drama, and long-standing guilt.

48. Victims, Jonathan Kellerman, Crime. Thank goodness, Kellerman didn't suck in this one. In fact, it was a pretty decent page turner that I finished in a few hours. There's an extremely gruesome murderer out there, and he's escalating. The boys have to figure out whodunnit and why quickly, before the LA citizens figure out a crazy serial killer is on the loose. That's never good.

Since I am most of the way through the latest Tana French, an audio book, and partway into another audio book, it's looking good to hit 52 books this year. Might even go over, as I have the new Michael Connelly and the new Jim Butcher also queued up. Still, makes me feel like a slouch. I used to read a book a day! TV and work and the Internet take up too much of my time, clearly! I need to reprioritize.
