snowmageddon and beyond!

So it snowed. Did you hear? There was a lot of it.

Worked on Tuesday, came home to a house stocked with food courtesy of my honey, and then settled in for the big event. It was pretty much spot on, forecast-wise. Started around midnight, hammered down overnight, continued into the late part of the next day, and then got very cold for the next 2 days. I'm sure the weather-people were relieved to have finally gotten something right.

Worked from home on Wednesday, as did all my coworkers. Was surprisingly busy. Brian did a couple rounds of shoveling (as did Patrick later — he was working from home, too), and then I pitched in and cleaned off my car. As there was something like 20" on top of everything out there, that wasn't as pathetic as it sounds. Worked pretty late, then had some dinner and both of us sat around vaguely whiny about sore muscles and such. I actually hit my percocet stash (still left over from my sciatica in 2009) and slept through the night for a change.

The drive in to work on Thursday was pretty decent. As I got closer to the city the snowfall totals were smaller, so the drive was basically easy the whole way. There's a new Dunkin' Donuts on my way, and it's a drive-thru, so I hit it up. I think it was opening day. Very exciting. It was very beautiful out, sunny and BRIGHT. I need to get sunglasses of some kind, whether it's a clip on device onto my regular glasses, or full-on prescription shades. Gotta do it! Took some photos on the way, as it was too pretty to not.

We have a house guest staying the weekend, so I came home to a sparkling clean downstairs. My job is the upstairs, but I couldn't get terribly motivated at first. Eventually my guilt/houseproud-ness kicked in, though, and I cleaned off my desk in the office, gathered all the trash and recyclables, cleaned the whole bedroom, and thoroughly scrubbed the bathroom. It will be nice to come home tonight to a totally clean house and nothing I really need to do. Patrick's away for the weekend, Brian will be tied up with his guest (they write computer games together and will be at Arisia doing a presentation tomorrow), so I have the clean house to myself Saturday night. I think I will read!

Driving was actually worse here today than it was on Thursday, I think because some of the shit in the road managed to partially melt and then refreeze.

You didn't tell me Brian was going to Arisia. Damn, I might have gone if I'd known there'd be someone around to be threatening if need be.

He's going to be in the gaming room all day. He's helping Thom run "Artemis" (http://artemis.eochu.com/), trying to stir up some interest / business. I don't know if he's there at all on Sunday, either. They're there tonight, which they didn't expect to be.

My post-shoveling back is wishing I still had some Percoset left from my gallbladder surgery! Ow...

Yeah, it's pretty handy. I rarely use all of what I get prescribed; I still have stuff from my thyroid surgery — I used extra-strength Tylenol for that. So when I really need it, when the aches of daily life are just too much to get any meaningful sleep, I hit it up. I don't like taking any of them because I get awful dry-mouth forever, but sometimes it's just worth it. Sorry you're sore!

What gorgeous pictures! I need a better camera, or a better eye, because my pics aren't nearly that nice.

Thank you for taking care of Rita! I'm sure she appreciates having Lady and Other Man come by to visit her lonely old self!

Thanks! That's just my pocket Canon. It's hard to take bad pictures when it's that gorgeous out.

And I like visiting her little old self. Today I brought over one of the cat fishing poles and played with her for about a half hour. I made her rest periodically, because she IS older than Methuselah. But she had a very good time.
